Egotistical coach "Mr. Simmons" is immaculate.. and I've met him more than once in various guises. The movie was shot on the cheap in just 19 days, making qualities out of what could arguably be called shortcomings.
Will Ferrell's company bought the rights to this movie quick sharp. It could have justified a much bigger budget and better marketing, but hey.. we're now looking at a cult classic.
